When I saw Raincoats and Retrievers by Cressida McLaughlin, I couldn’t resist continuing this fantastic mini series and finding out what happens next to Cat Palmer and her dogs.
This third instalment sees Cat have her first date with the elusive Mark, who has been notoriously difficult to pin down and about whom she still has mixed feelings. She feels a connection with him when they’re together, but the doubts start as soon as they’re apart – would she be better off with her housemate, Joe, instead? Then there is the frosty marriage between her clients, Juliette and Will, which Cat can’t help but become involved in, especially if she could heal the rift between them. Her heart is in the right place, but will her meddling cause more harm than good?
I really enjoyed seeing the relationship dynamics explored further in this book, as we see Cat draw closer to both Mark and Joe and she begins to realise that she will have to make a choice. She is unsure how she feels about Joe and doesn’t want to upset the atmosphere in the house, but at the same time she is attracted to Mark and wants to see where it could lead. We also get a step closer to finding out some of the character’s secrets, as well as learning even more about the wonderful neighbourhood of Primrose Terrace. Of course, this novella is also full of the cute dogs Cat encounters through her dog-walking business, bringing a smile to anyone’s face. I can’t wait to discover how this series ends in the fourth part.
